Battersea Power Station

Battersea Power Station North Park was the winning entry in an international design competition for Park View International. The concept integrated the power station’s post-industrial monolithic structure into a contemporary, accessible and multi-functional public park.

In response to its Thames-side location, a sequence of complimentary spaces rose from the river walk through a sculpted landscape planted in boldly-striped strata. On an elevated terrace, rectangular water features ebbed and flowed with the tide, in a visual connection with the setting and providing opportunities for play and relaxation. The water features also had the facility to be drained, opening up the expansive terrace to be able to host large community events.

In contrast, secret, sunken gardens adjacent to the power station frame intimate views of the iconic building.
